Industrial Pipeline

Points for cryogenic pipeline layout?

1. Cryogenic piping shall have sufficient flexibility, utilizing natural compensation. Add expansion joints if natural compensation is unavailable at very low temperatures.

2. Avoid pipeline vibration, especially for pumps, compressors and exhaust lines. Install flexible components near vibration sources to isolate vibration.

3. Branches fitted with safety, vent or drain valves on carbon/low-alloy steel cryogenic pipes shall use austenitic stainless steel within icing-prone zones, with flanged transitions between dissimilar metals.

4. Do not weld pipe supports at elbows, where stress concentration causes brittle fracture.

5. Flanges shall not be welded directly near elbows or tees. Extend spools for bolt access without damaging cold insulation. Valve piping shall allow single-valve removal without disrupting insulation.

6. Cold bridge prevention for supports of cryogenic insulated pipes:

a. Horizontal pipes: wooden blocks or rigid insulation pads beneath pipes to reduce cold loss.

b. Vertical pipes: insert wooden/rigid insulation pads between supports and cryogenic equipment.
